Trapped in the depths.Gerhard Hanusch (left) , 43, and Fritz Leder, 36, two of the three miners who have been trapped for six days and nights in a flooded iron ore mine at Lengede, near Hanover, West Germany, as they were photographed last night, October 29, with a camera lowered down the supply shaft. The picture was taken by Emil Pohlai, 34, the third man trapped 259 feet below ground. Forty others miners lost their lives when thousands of tons of mud and water poured into the mine from a burst reservoir. The three trapped men are expected to be brought to the surface late Wednesday or Thursday as rescue teams drill to their tunnel (30/10/1963).
